Abstract
Herein, we aimed to characterize the communicative intentions between children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the early stage of language development and their mothers. The participants included six children with ASD and their mothers, and six typically developing and language-age matched children and their mothers. Spontaneous speech during free play was collected. Therefore, (1) types of communicative intentions, mode of communication, and types of turn-taking showed a significant difference between the children¡¯s groups, (2) The types of communicative intentions and number of turn-takings demonstrated a significant difference between the mothers¡¯ groups. Our results will aid us in understanding the characteristics of the communicative acts performed by children with ASD in the early language development stage and their mothers.
